Uncovering your values is the most important action you need to take in building your career. Values are crucial to your everyday actions. Whether you are aware of them or not, your values influence every part of your life and have an impact on your daily activities, how much you gain from certain experiences and what you like and dislike.
What are your values? Before you can answer this question, we need to understand what values are. In the context of Yong, values are characteristics or qualities that you think are important to embody in the way you live and work.
Let’s say you really enjoy developing yourself and are invested in growing your capabilities. Most people enjoy learning a new skill, but for some individuals this is a stronger driver than for other people. In that case we can say that “development” or “learning” is an important value to you. If these are two of your values, you should be looking for a job or career where you will have the opportunity to learn and develop yourself and your skills.
Let’s look at another example. Say for instance that you are a person that really likes stability and you do not like change, then getting a job with a stable income and fixed hours where you do not have to travel a lot will be the best career choice for you based on your value of stability.
Finding your values on your own can be a very difficult exercise. That is why we have created our course. As part of the course, you will be able to do exercises to find out what exactly your values are, how to use your values in everyday life and your career and how your values affect you.
