Why taking risks is good for your career

Taking a risk requires courage. A lot of people are rather quiet by nature, which is all right. But if you want to have a great career, learn to be bold. It leads to more opportunities.

Always have the courage to try something new. Don’t worry too much about what other people might think. Show that you’re willing to show initiative and take calculated risks. When you’re older, you’ll regret what you didn’t do more than what you did. This is not to suggest you should ever be reckless or impulsive. Just have the courage to achieve great things.

So, how can you become more courageous? Sometimes in life, there are things you know you should do — but you avoid doing them.. For example, maybe there’s someone you should contact, a course you should take or something you should read. In some cases, it simply comes down to laziness. In other cases, you’re probably being held back by a sense of fear or worry. You know you should get in touch, raise a question or offer to help — but you’re worried about what might happen. The next time you find yourself in a situation like this, ask yourself this question: what’s the worst that could happen?

In most cases, the worst that could happen is that you’ll get no for an answer. Is this really so bad? Have a little more courage. There will be times when people say no but there will also be times when they say yes. This leads to more opportunities. You’ll probably find that people say yes more often than you expect.

So, do more of the things you think of doing! Don’t let your doubts get in the way. Take a few chances. You might feel afraid of making a mistake but take positive actions anyway. It will help you develop your career and take on exciting new challenges.
